Linda Lemon x Ania Kuczyńska
Since ancient times, humans have assigned gender to the elements. There are numerous literal and symbolic depictions of women with vessels or women as vessels for water—ancient vases, chalices, the Holy Grail, women carrying jugs. The motif of water being associated with women appears repeatedly throughout culture.
Hydrofeminism is a concept that emphasizes the physical connection and solidarity between various water bodies. As humans, we are made up of 60-80% water and develop in a fluid environment. Fluid feminism allows us to perceive and experience our essence as permeable and ever-changing. By embodying this idea, we become more ecologically sensitive and are confronted with the responsibility of caring for our world. It opens us up to alliances, blurs boundaries, and encourages active participation. It expands our awareness of the body within a social context.
The water in the vase, designed by Linda Lemon, serves as a reminder that collectively, life originates from the primordial ocean, and individually, each of us has a watery past in our mother’s womb. We are all, therefore, connected by the bonds of water, stretching back to the cosmic beginnings of the world.
The vase is made of stoneware.
